Eduardo Mendiola charged with sexual assault

A 21-year-old Moonachie NJ man was charged with sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl, Bergen County authorities said Tuesday.

Eduardo Mendiola faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Mendiola was arrested after the girl told her mother about the assault, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. The girl’s mother alerted local police, who contacted county Special Victims Unit detectives.

In an interview with detectives, the girl provided details of the abuse, the prosecutor’s office said. Mendiola was arrested Monday and ordered held on $300,000 bail, with no 10 percent option.

The prosecutor’s office described Mendiola as an acquaintance of the girl.
