Nia Alleyne arrested on theft, weapons charges
The theft of a pricey university camera led to the discovery of an airsoft gun and narcotics inside a Farleigh Dickinson University track and field star’s dorm room, according to township police.
Aberdeen, Maryland native Nia Alleyne, 21, is facing drugs, weapons and theft charges after police say she stole a high-powered digital camera that had been loaned to a fellow student by a professor. Inside a bag in her room, police found the camera, marijuana and a spring-powered handgun, Police Chief Robert A. Carney said.
Alleyne, a junior biochemistry major, competed in the 4×100-relay, the long jump and the triple jump in the spring of 2015 season, winning several events.
Dina Schipper, a spokeswoman for FDU, wouldn’t comment on the matter.
Alleyne posted $5,000 bail with a 10 percent option on Wednesday.
